Portland City Council Must Pass A Ceasefire Resolution

On March 7th, 2024, I had the privilege of witnessing the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners pass a ceasefire resolution, a significant step towards promoting peace and stability in Gaza. As a candidate for Portland City Council District 2, I stand firm in my belief that advocating for a ceasefire in Palestine is not just a matter of international policy, but a reflection of the values we hold dear in our community.

The situation in Gaza is heart-wrenching. Decades of conflict have left the region in despair, with countless lives lost and communities shattered. An immediate and permanent ceasefire is required to move forward and stop this genocide. It will allow humanitarian aid to reach those in desperate need, give families a chance to rebuild and open the door for dialogue and understanding.

The resolution passed by the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners is a testament to the power of local action in influencing global issues. As a community, Portland has always stood for progressive values, advocating for human rights and justice. Our voice in this matter is crucial. It sends a clear message to the world that we, as a community, are committed to peace and solidarity with those suffering from conflict and injustice.

During my time in Portland, working in various roles, from healthcare administration to supporting progressive causes, I have seen the transformative power of empathy and compassion. These experiences have shaped my belief that as global citizens, we have a responsibility to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. Supporting a ceasefire in Gaza aligns with this belief and the values we hold as a community.

I urge the Portland City Council to follow the lead of the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners and pass a similar resolution. Let's show that Portland stands for peace, justice, and a world where every individual, regardless of where they live, has the right to a life free from violence and fear. A ceasefire in Gaza is a step in that direction, and I am committed to advocating for policies that promote peace and understanding, both locally and globally.
